The PCPCRC Clinical Trials Platform
Transforming palliative care for patients with advanced cancer
Despite early palliative care involvement, many Canadians with advanced cancer still experience severe symptoms. We need to study new, promising treatments to improve palliative care for all Canadians.
About the Platform
Building on the early success of the PCPCRC, we are creating a pan-Canadian platform to conduct high-quality clinical trials research in advanced cancer.
This platform will enable efficient, patient-centered, and practice-changing research for patients and caregivers.

Efficient Research
- Reduces inefficiencies
- Generates large studies with clear results quickly
- Establishes a benchmark for efficient, rapid research
Positive Impact
- Minimizes participant burden by eliminating new data collection
- Maximizes impact for those affected by cancer
- Provides opportunity to receive innovative treatments
Learning Together
- Fosters a nationwide research community
- Trains the next generation of researchers
- Empowers meaningful contributions to research
Integration in Practice
- Develops equitable methods for sharing results with researchers and the public
- Identifies, scales, and integrates effective treatments into clinical practice
Four Key Components
Hub Based Participation
Each hub enrols patients and caregivers onto the platform. Individual Phase 3 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) recruit participants from this centralized pool.
Data Strategy
The platform standardizes data collection, uses a centralized, Canada-based, privacy-compliant electronic data capture system, and provides master data sharing agreement templates.
Knowledge Mobilization
The network scales and spreads proven interventions to improve outcomes for patients and families.
Training and Mentorship
The program leverages training and mentorship programs to strengthen relationships and collaborations and trains Canada’s next generation of clinical research leaders in palliative care.
